HOLLAND SETTLEMENT

Reading Question

In reply to correspondence appearing in the “Argus” in reference to the condition of the roads at Holland Settlement, Cobden, the Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) states: — “It is not usual to reply to anonymous letters, because if residents have any complaints to make they have nothing to fear from making their representations direct to the Council, but seeing so many are under a misapprehension, I deem it proper to make a statement relative to the streets in Holland Settlement. These streets are owned by the. Housing Department, and are entirely a matter for that Department Lhej are definitely not the problem of the Borough Council. The requirements of the Borough Council as to completion of the streets before the Council would take them over were conveyed to the Government a very long time back. Recently the Government sought a modification of the requirements, and also propounded a scheme for the lay-out of the footpaths. Iffiese matters were considered at the July meeting of the finance committee, and the committee’s report was adopted by the Council on Thursday last. The Council’s decision will be conveyed to the Department shortly."
