CROPS DEVASTATED

IN VICTORIA A Disastrous Drought [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received August 4, 11.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 4. There ha s been a long spell of dry weather in the Victorian wheat areas, which has had a devastating effect on the crops. The Premier of Victoria. Mr Dunstan, on his return from an inspection tour, said: “Only a miracle can give Victoria a reasonable wheat crop.-. The prospects are very blue, said Mi- Dunstan. “I have not seen one really promising crop. They are just coming up in patches and those patches look miserable. “A big area, prepared for late cropping, is not likely to be planted at all.

“The dry weather is also likely to affect the lamb export and th e wool clip. The early lambs are stunteu, and they may have to be carried as stores,” Mr Dunstan added.
