Taxes Opposed

WELLINGTON, August 2.
At a mass meeting, Hutt ‘railway workshops employees passed a resolution protesting against the incidence cf taxation as affecting railway employees, and calling for a cost of living bonus to cover steep increases in living costs. The meeting considered that necessary revenue could be obtained by implementing to the full the declared policy of conscription of wealth. The meeting also protested against the attitude of the Secretary of the Labour Party in suggesting, .at Rotorua, cancellation of the forty-hour week where this is necessary, without full consultation with trades union and Labour branches.
The meeting also protested against granting £1350 a year, plus expenses, to the members of the War Cabinet.
The meeting protested against high salaries being paid to newly-c'eated boards and commissions.
There was also a protest made against payment of high salaries to members of the public service receiving in excess of £5OO a year.
