Robertson, of Greymouth, and Captain A T. Dowell citizens of Greymouth provided practically all of the £12,000 that was raised on the West Coast, and £3,000 was subscribed by Chat ham Islanders. The company sent Captain Dowell to England in 1923 to purchase a vessel, and he arrived bacx in New Zealand in 1924 with the steamer Tees. The vessel was purchased for the West Coast trade and the Chatham Islands run, and she has been operating since her arrival in 1924, mostly in the Chathams trade. She has made many visits to Greymouth. Accommodating 17 passengers, the Tees has been the sole passenger ship running to the Chatham Islands.
