The Alexander is due from Nelson to-night, to load coal for return to Nelson. The Rata is expected from Wellington to-morrow to load coal for Wanganui. The Puriri is expected from Nelson on Monday to load coal for New Plymouth.

The Kakapo is in port loading coal for Napier and Wellington, and is scheduled to sail to-morrow.

The Pukeko is in port loading coal for Wellington, and is expected to be despatched to-morrow night. The Wingatui from Wellington is discharging cargo, and then loads coal for Wellington, sailing possibly to-morrow night. Personal:

J, Garland arrived last evening from Burnham on a fortnight’s special leave.

The death took place at the Buller Hospital this morning of Mr Thomas Alexander Burfows. Deceased, who was 37 years of age, Was a native of Hokitika, and a single man. He attained considerable success as a trainer and driver of trotting horses. He drove Cantdta and Rey Spec in their early successes, ana was also associated with Lady’ Ann, August Fainter, Decoy Bird, Guy Denver, Queen Author, Atarau Queen and other well known performers. The late Mr Burrows, in recognition of his services to the Owners’ and Breeders’ Association,, was elected a life member of that’ body. He is survived by his father, and two brothers, Harry and Leslie, Christchurch, and one sister, Mrs F. Lynch, Reefton. The sympathy of the community is extended to the relatives in their sad loss. The Kawatiri A team was defeated for the first time in the past two seasons in the Buller basketball championship match against Technical Old Girls, by 14 goals toll. The winners played Kawatiri at its own bustling game and thoroughly deserved its win on the run of play. Kawatiri, however, were without two of its leading players, K. Carey and A. Casey.
