N.Z. PILOTS
TWO AWARDED D.F.C. WELLINGTON, August 2. The following particulars have been released by the Director of Publicity, regarding the latest awards to New Zealanders serving with the Royal Air Force:-— Flying Officer Neville Williams, R.N.Z.A.F., , Distinguished Flying Cross. Flying Officer Williams was born at Frankton Junction. 25 years ago. H e was educated at New Plymouth Boys’ High School, later joining the Western Federated Flying Club, where he gained an “A” license in 1936. In 1937, he was granted a short service commission with the R.oyal New Zealand Air Force. He is now attached to the Royal Air Force. Pilot Officer Frederick Swift. R.A.F. Distinguished Flying Cross.' Pilot Officer Swift was born in Invercargill and is 23 years of age. He was educated at the Southland Technical College, where he passed the engineering examinations. He joined the Invercargill Fir e later in 1937 being accepted into the R N.Z.A.F. Civil Reserve of Pilots, where he received flying training. In 1938, he was selected for a short service commission with the Royal Air Force, leaving New Zealand for the United Kingdom in lyiay of that year. He has been with the R.A.F. since.
