N.Z. JEWISH DOCTOR

M.C. for Dunkirk Bravery AUCKLAND, August 1. For bravery and prompt action during the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force at Dunkirk, a young Jewish medical officer whose home is in Auckland, was awarded the Military Cross. He is Captain J. L. Reynolds, son of Mr S. Reynolds, of Mission Bay. A message from the London correspondent of “The Herald” quotes the following War Office statement on Captain Reynolds’ action: “Throughout the whole operations Captain Reynolds example of coolness and self-con-trol under fire was a great asset to his battalion. On the night of June 2 the enemy shelled the Mole at Dunkirk, on which were concentrations of British and French troops. He obtained carrying parties ,to move wounded first to the beach and later to an ambulance. He altogether dealt with some two dozen wounded, and accompanied them to an advance dressing station, where he worked all through the day. By his prompt action he saved many lives, and showed a complete disregard for his personal safety.”
