REEFTON, August 1
Mr R. Dickie, headmaster of the Reefton school, has been appointed Inspector of Schools, and takes up his appointment very shortly. He has been in Reefton less than two years. The School Committee are very sorry to lose him. The rainfall here in July recorded at the School of Mines was as follows: Rain on eight days; fall 1.59; maximum, .43 on July 11. There were 23 members present at the Jockey Club’s annual meeting, when Mr J. B. Auld (chairman) stated a considerable amount of liability had been liquidated. The officers were elected, viz.: President, Mr Auld, vice-president Mr J. B. Discaciati, auditors Messrs C. Nevin, C. J. Willis, committee, Messrs C. H. Cleaver, H. W. Gebbie, J. A. McCallum, V.’ More, D. Panekhurst and J. Patterson. The chairman said the club appreciated the Trotting Club’s aid in keeping the ground in order, and Mr J. Griffin’s services as lorrydriver, and also owners and trainers for using the outside track.
