FAT PIGS DEAR Mutton Also Up I Our Own correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. Fancy prices for some fat pigs, and rood prices for fat sheep and vealers were features at to-day’s Addington market, which Messrs H. Matson Co. review as follows: — Fat sheep: The yarding was approximately the same as last week, about 4000‘ head. There was a keen sale. Prices were up about -s a bead. Prime wethers sold from 42s to 55s 10d, medium 31s to 41s, ana lioht to 295; prime ewes 34s to 4.9= 10d, medium 24s to 33s and light to 23s 6d. Fat cattle: The yarding Wc.s slightly larger than last week, about 500 head. There was a prime showing of West Coast cattle. Prices aid not vary on last week’s rates. Prime steers sold from £l6 to £23 7s 6a, medium £lO 10s to £l5 10s light to £lO, piime heifers £ll to £lB, medium xt 15s to £lO, and light to £7 10s; prime cows £8 15s to £l4 12s 6d medium £3 15s to £8 ss, light to £6 10s. Best beef fetched 47s per lOOlbs, medium 40s per lOOlbs, and light 37s per lOOlbs downward. Fat pigs: The porker section entry was not quite sufficient for the butchers’ demands, and in the latter stages the prices were the highest so far this season. Choppers met witn a keen sale. Baconers were forward :n medium numbers, and met with the same prices as last week. Choppers fetched £3 8s 6d to £9 18s 6d, ig-i--pork 52s 6d to 55s 6d, medium 56s 6d to £3 2s 6d, heavy £3 4s 6d to £o 11= 6d, the average price per lb. being Sid to 91d. Light bacon sold from £3 10s 6d to £3 19s 6d, medium £4 3s (id to £4 15s 6d, heavy £4 19s 6d to £5 9s 6d, extra £5 12s 6d to £6 10s, cbm average price per lb. being 7id to Bm. Store pigs: There was an overflow market. Compared with last week s good rates, prices were down about 3s a head. The sale was erratic Large stores sold to 44s and smau from 26s to 30s; weaners, small 5s to 12s, best 18s to 225, slips 21s to -6 s. Store sheep: The entry was double last week’s. Prices were about the same, the demand being for good ewes heavy in lamb. A line of Romney cross 2-tooth ewes made 35s 6d. Average sorts sold at about 19s 6d. Vealers: The entry was smaller than last week. There was an excellent sale for good sorts. Good runners made from £7 5s to £l2 3s 6d. Best veal sold to £5 16s 6d, and average sorts from £2 10s to £4 ss.
