WEST COAST UNION. Mr A. A. Adams (president) was in the chair al the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening when there were also present Messrs J. Kyle, F. Eggleton, T. O’Donnell, H. F. Silcock. T. Mclntosh, F. W. Baillie, J. Steel, T. P. Ryan, W. M. Stewart, and A. M. Jamieson (acting secretary). Mier ino reading of the minutes, Mr Mclntosh objected to a reference that he had “argued” with Archdeacon Jermyn during last week’s discussio ■ on Sunday football. He was just searching for information. The chairman: To call it an argument is not perhaps a correct interpretation. The acting-secretary: What do you call it? I tried to put it as fairly as possible. The chairman: It is more like : paper’s report than anything else. The acting-secretary: The discussion was pretty argumentative all the ame. Mr Ryan: Should it be in the minutes at ail? I don’t think it should. Mr Mclntosh: I think it is quite a >ood idea because we have it on record. The minutes were then altered to read “discussion ensued,” instead of “argument.” Mr Eggleton: I though we were going to get another arugument EXCURSION TO CHRISTCHURCH Mr Baillie reported that the railcar was booked until September. There was no chance of getting another raii-car on account of petrol restrictions. Later the department advised they were agreeable to running excursion trains as before. The chairman: They are getting generous.

Mi’ Baillie said that a guarantee of £lOO would be required. If the Union ran the train the fare would be about 12s 6d. During that week there were excursion prices to Christchurch for the races: The chairman: I wouldn’t listen to excursion trains under those conditions these days. The present cond--tions don’t allow of much chance. Mr Mclntosh: Why have they changed their policy? We used to make a fair thing out of them, but now there are less to travel they want to run it.

The Union went into committee to discuss the matter.

When the open meeting was resumed Messrs Ryan, Baillie and Jamieson were deputed to interview the Railways Department with a view to securing better conditions for the excursion train.

It was decided to grant leave of absence to Mr M. Olsen, who is at present employed in the country. The Canterbury Union wrote confirming Augujst 31 ifor the return game at Greymouth. The Bell Hill Club wrote withdrawing their senior team, owing to shortage of players. The application was granted. The New Zealand Union advised approval of one reinstatement.

The Te Kinga Club applied for the reclassification of B. Birchfield, R. Wilkes and K. Hodgkinson from senior to junior.

Mr Ryan said that the Union should waive the rules during the war. He moved that the applications be granted.

The motion was seconded by Mr Baillie and carried. The Westland Sub-Union wrote asking that the McLean Trophy match he played at Hokitika on Saturday next and also to send a third grade representative team to play a return match.

The Westland Sub-Union forwarded a challenge against South Westland for the Dittman Shielf at Harihari on August 10. The Buller Union wrote extending thanks for the hospitality given to their representative team and particularly Mr M. Olsen for his assistance. Congratulations were also extended to the Union’s; team for retaining the Rundle Cup. It was decided to thank the Star Club for the use of their pavilion on the occasion of the third grade representative match.

It was decided that the third grade representatives travel to Hokitika on Saturday, and Messrs Ryan, Baillie and Jamieson were appointed to arrange transport. It was decided that Mr F. Saunders be manager of the team, and that the selectors accompany the team.

It was decided to ask the Westland Sub-Union if they would make a contribution towards the cost of transport of the schools’ team to the Nelson tournament. SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. After considering, in committee, the report of the referee, Mr. H. ’.I Coulter, on the ordering off of T. C. Metcalfe, Southland All Black, in the Metropolitan v. Combined Services match on Saturday, the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union reported' to-night that it had been decided to take no further action against the player. It. was considered that hi s being ordered off the field, and the attendant publicity, constituted sufficient punishment for the player’s offence in persistently disputing the referee’s decision in awarding the final' try. A letter will be written to the player advising him of the Union’s decision.
