New Award
40-HOUR WEEK;
(Received July 29, 9.20 u.m ) SYDNEY. July 23.
Under an award, which was delivered to-day, to cover the coalmining industry, the hours will i" pmain at forty hours weekly for all underground workers. The hours or all other workers are to be 86 fortnightly.
Th e .wages of the engine-drivers in New South Wales are to be increased by seven shillings per week The award prescribes a five-day week, but on one Saturday every fortnight the employees will be required to work for six hours. The award also sets up a network of conciliation committees, with wide powers, and with directions that stoppages of work shall not occur
