GREY POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Grey Electric Power Board last evening there were present Messrs J. B. Kent (chairman), W. Clayton, W. Fisher, W. H. Parfitt. J. Unwin. J. Smeaton, A. M. Carroll, and J. Mulcare. The Secretary (Mr. W. S. McClymont) and the Engineer (Mr. W. S. Trotter) were also present. An apology was received from Mr. A. H. McKane. The Power Boards Association advised that the Executive had decided not to hold the conference at present, but in September as usual./ It was decided to approve the suggestion. The Finance Committee recommended the passing of accounts amounting to £2024/5/11 for payment. The Secretarv was congratulated on having raised £lO.OOO without the cost of brokerage. The itinerary of Mrs Barrington, cookery expert, was ap proved.

Following a discussion it was decided that the letting of the Board room be left to the discretion of the Secretary. It was decided to support the suggestion of the Power Board Secretaries’ Association that regional meetings take place in the South Island. The report was adopted.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Engineer (Mr. S. W. Trotter) reported for the period, 21st February to ,19th March, as follows: —The outside staff have been engaged on general maintenance in Cobden, Runanga and Greymouth, and the connection of new consumers. The location of routes and pegging for short extensions to the existing high tension lines for new dredges has been put in hand and approval' for their constructions will be sought from the Electricity Controller when the details are completed. Approval has already been obtained for the short extension required at Red Jack’s Creek. Further extensions to the low tension system at the Government Housing Settlement in Cobden are also required for an additional batch of new houses. Since last meeting 18 new applications for supply have been received, making the total to date 4727. Fourteen new consumers have been con nected, and this brings the total number of consumers up to 4746. Extensions and alterations to 46 existing installations have been carried out. Nine washing machines and 25 radio sets have been connected. Six electric ranges were connected this month, and six rangs were omitted from tne report last month. One hundred and eight re-inspections have been made, and 81 meters have been removed or fitted for various reasons. The nected load for the period is as fob low: Light, 6-650 kw. (total 1854.890 kw.), heat 28.8 kw. 4201.27 kw.); water heating, 5 kw. (484.16 kw.), power 24.5 h.p. (11261.05 h.p.); cooking 42.150 kw. (3972.3 kw.) The loan lor’the month was 107 kw., makmg a total of 21,800 kw. The report was adopted. Formal resolutions makmg a special security rate of .Id. in the £ on the capital value of all rateable Property in connection with the 1939 Extension Loan of £15,000 wer e carried on the motion of Messrs Clayton and Parfitt.
