Shipping: The Rata is due from Wanganui .to-morrow, to load coal for Nelson and Picton. The Kaimiro is expected from Wellington to-morrow to load coal for Napier and Auckland. X The Waipahi is expected from Wellington to-morrow night, and loads coal for return to Wellington on Friday. The Wingatui is scheduled to sail from Wellington on Saturday and loads coal for Wellington on Tuesday. Personal: Mrs T. Pickering, of Queen Street, left this morning on a holiday visit to Wellington. Miss E. Daily was a passenger by plane from Wellington yesterday. The marriage took place at Wellington recently of Rhoda, third daughter of Mr and Mrs John Taggarft, of Granity, to John Patrick, eldest son of Mr and Mrs John Kilkenny, of Westport. Miss Molly Kilkenny attended as bridesmaid, and Mr T. Lockington was best man The honeymoon will' be spent in the North Island.

Westport Jockey Club: The acceptances for the opening day of the Westport Jockey Club’s meeting are quite satisfactory, there being very few scratchings. With fair fields assured and the horses of high class, all that is needed is fine weather to make a successful meeting, Cricket: Following are the Buller Cricket Association fixtures for the week-end (home team mentioned first):—Saturday: Birchfield v. Hector; St. Canice’s v. Railway. Sunday: United v.l Birchfield, Hone Heke v. Railway. Playing at tLe Waimangaroa Domain 'during the week-end, the recently admitted team, Hone Heke, secured a convincing win over United by 121 runs to 48. Features of the Hone Heke innings were the line efforts of J. Allott 32, McFadzen 38, G. Allott 24 not out. Bowling for United, Humphries, three for 18; W. Neighbours, three for 35; R. Moseley, three for 16, were the most successful. The top scorer for United was G. Tinetti with 10 runs. Bowling for Hone Heke, Smythe was particularly successful, securing seven for 24, B. Allott, two for 21, taking the- remaining wickets. Tennis Fixtures: The following fixtures will be played on Sunday, 17th, home teams mentioned first: —Waimangaroa v. Westport B, Waimangaroa v. Granity; Westport A v. Denniston B. With eight games still to be competition points gained to date are: St. John’s 12, Westport A 10, Westport B and Waimangaroa 5, Denniston A 4, Granity and Stockton 2. Subject to transport arrangements and weather the junior tennis competition, which is confined to secondary school pupils, wilL commence on Saturday morning. It is expected that the teams taking part will be: Westport Technical, St. John’s, Granity and Denniston District High Schools.
