AIR TRAGEDY

AUCKLAND SQUADRON LEADER. FALLS OUT OF PLANE. AUCKLAND March 12. As a result of a flying accident, details of which are not yet available, Squadron-Leader D. M. Allan lost his life at the Mangere aerodrome, about ten o’clock to-day. He was flying dual control, with Pilot Officer Arkwright, when he fell from the aeroplane, and was killed outright. Pilot-Officer Arkwright brought the plane down without a crash. They took off from the aerodrome about 9.30 a.m. in a Tiger Moth, which is a regulation training machine at the aerodrome. Another plane took off and located Allan’s body in a field about two miles from the aerodrome. It signalled the ground staff, who recovered the body. Death had apparently been instantaineous. An inspection of the Tiger Moth was subsequently carried out by two officers from the Hobsonville air base. They found evervthing intact, and found no indication of how the mishap occurred.
