Detective-Sergeant Knight said Greanty was a local youth and had been on bail since he had been first charged. Smith at the" lime of his arrest was not in Greymouth, and he thought that if they were both released they would not report or put in an appearance. If bail were to be granted, he asked that it be made substantial and that both accused should report at 7.30 o’clock each evening.

The Magistrate, Mr G. G. Chisholm, said that an objection had been raised to bail, and he would therefore make it substantial.
