NORTHLAND DOWNPOUR. WHANGAREI, January 16. Except for minor flooding of some by-roads at the week-end, the rainfall of nearly seven inches caused no traffic dislocation in Northland. At Waipu Cove, a .bach situated normally above sett level, was swept off ns foundations by the .waves, and was depos.ted 100 yards up the creek. Tire occupants escaped just in time, losing some of their personal effects. Apart from this, no damage is reported, except to fruit crops.
