BIG INCREASE

building permits Greymouth’s Busy Year Exclusive of the large number of State houses erected at Cobden, there has been a big increase in the value of building permits issued at Urey mouth during 1939, the being £83,042 as compared ,with 15/- in 1938 and £71,205/17/6 m 1937. The 1938 figures included an• am °unt of £32,000 for extensions at the uiey River Hospital, but no such large amount is included in the 1939 figures. House building has been active, 29 dwellings, valued at being erected, as compared with 27 houses, valued at £23,956/10/10 in 1938 Repairs to houses were valued at MW* New business premises erected were six, valued at £15,632, as compared with £40,496 in 1938 (includ ng the Hospital extensions) and £23,216/ 10/- in 1937.
