PLEA OF NOT GUILTY ON CONSPIRACY CHARGE (Received January 16, 10 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 15. Seventeen members of the Christian Front pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy. They were remanded on bail. Bail was fixed at fifty thousand dollars each. MOVEMENT WIDESPREAD. POLICEMEN’S SUPPORT. (Received January 16, 1.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 16. The Police Commissioner, here, Mr. Valentine, is investigating reports! that forty of the police are identified with the Christian Front movement. The “New York Times” says that G-men raided the Boston headquarters of the Christian Front. Further arrests are expected in other cities.

Eight were officers, 195 were single men, 16 married men without children, 26 married men with one child, and 33 married men with two children. They made a total registration of 3139 since tne outbreak of .war. Of that number, 19(j9 have been passed as fit, 632 as temporarily unfit, and 202 as permanently unfit. The medical classifications made last week were:—Fit, 184; temporarily unfit, 33; permanently unfit, 46. Additional medical boards .will be held this week. Sixty men have been asked to appear today for examination, and 40 names appear on the lists for Wednesday. Another board will sit on Friday. BURNHAM BAND. CHRISTCHURCH, January 16. The Burnham Band, playing instruments provided by the citizens • of Christchurch, is now in being. The conductor is Mr. G. E. Patterson. Mr. A. Schnack was originally appointed conductor of the Burnham Band, but for medical reasons, his appointment was not confirmable. Mr. Patterson, who has had extensive band experience, was appointed bandmaster of the Artillery Band in Dunedin in July, 1938. The first practice of the Burnham Band tooK place over the week-end. The band has 15 playing members. This is below strength, but more bandsmen are to be appointed.
