LABOUR PARTY

GREYMOUTH BRANCH. The ordinary meeting last, evening of the Greymouth Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was well attended, and apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. H. McKane, J. O’Brien, M.P., and H. Harvey. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Patrick McGirr was passed, members standing in silence. It. was decided to hold over until next month’s meeting the matters of nominations for national official positions and remits for the Dominion Conference. The raising of funds for the erection of the now Lyceum Hall was discussed, and several committees to go into ways and means were set up. A report, which was adopted as very satisfactory was submitted by Mr J Anderson on the results of the efforts of the Branch Committee engaged in raising funds for lhe establishment of Labour daily newspapers. The statement, as to the results of the annual Labour Ball was also a very satisfactory one.. It was resolved that Mrs. R. McKeeen, of Wellington, be heartily thanked for her donation of a handsome handknitted shawl in connection with the Branch effort on behalf of the Labour dailies fund. The subject set for consideration at the meeting, that of the legislation passed during the past session, especially in relation to the war emergency, produced a very interesting discussion, it being recognised that the measures passed were required by the exceptional situation.
