MILLERTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. The Millerton mine continues to work full time. Mr and Mrs S’igley and family have left Millerton to take up residence in Nelson. Mr R. Mclntyre and Mr V. Moore left during the week-end for Wellington to attend a conference of analysts Mrs R. Dixon, Westport, is a visitor to Millerton. Mrs D. Young, of Millerton, is| a patient in. the Westport Hospital. Mr D. Young, of Millerton, was a visitor to Westport during the week The Thistle Soccer juniors travelled to Ngakawau on Sunday to play Denniston juniors in a re-play for the Temby Cup final. Millerton were declared winners on default. The Thistle seniors played Stockton seniors at Ngakawau on Sunday in th? replay for the Williams Cup. Millerton Thistle won by four goals to one. The Millerton Physical Fitness Committee held their weekly whist drive jn the Rechabite Hall on Monday evening. Mr W. Smith won the gent’s prize, and Mrs T. Burchfield the ladies’ prize.

The September meeting of the Millerton Women’s Institute was held in the Rechabite Hall on Wednesday evening. Mrs Shannon presided over a very large attendance of members Mrs Strang gave her report of the council meeting held in Westport, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The treasurer read the balance sheet of the social held last month, which proved satisfactory to all. Mr.W. Smith gave a lecture, also a practical demonstration on first aid which proved most interesting and instructive, and was enjoyed by all present. At the finish of the lecture, Mr Smith was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. On Wednesday next Mr Smith intends starting an ambulance class for women and girls. The competition winners for the evening were: Mrs Burchfield 1, Mrs .Corbett 2. A dainty supper was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Ninnes, Grace and Strang. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” closed a happy evening.
