Coroner, found that he died at his home, Johnston’s Lane, on September 1 from heart failure. William H. Stickle, cycle dealer, son of deceased, said his father was 70 years of age, and a native of Green Island, Dunedin. At 1 p.m. on September 1 witness arranged to go with him to a doctor in the evening, but when he next saw him at 6 p.m. he was dead. He had’ a fall last April and was ten days in hospital, and had complained of stomach pains. Arthur W. Yarrall* said he saw deceased almost daily, and on September 1 he had stated himself to be unwell. Witness took him a bowl of soup at 1 p.m. and saw him at 3.30 when he said he had enjoyed the soup and would see a doctor at 7 p.m. James Millner said he visited deceased's hut at 3.30 p.m. on Sep-| tember 1, but he was absent, while at 5.40 p.m. he found deceased dead I there, sitting on the bed. Dr. B. L. Wilson said that on examining the organs of deceased, he found indications of an old ulcer in the stomach. 1 and in the heart the blood vessels and ’

valves were stiffened and calcereous. The coronary arteries, supplying the heart muscles showed similar changes. There was a large pale clot of blood lying in the chambers of the heart, and death would be due to heart, failure, associated with the formation of the'clot. The cause of the clot would be the poor circulation of the coronary arteries and this condition has been progressing for years.
