In training at Randwick, Defaulter and Beauvite, who are Chelmford Stake opponents, shone to-day. Ridden by A. E. Ellis, Defaulter ran a strong seven furlongs on the course proper in 1.305, his first three furlongs being covered in 38 seconds. Beauvite, ridden by Lappin, was too good for Pearl of Asia over five furlongs on a track, in' 1.3. Beauvite must be conceded a great chance in the Chelmsford Stakes. Royal Chief, accompanied by Moorsotis, was responsible for a dazzling seven furlongs on the tan in 1.27. He will make his second attempt to win the Chelmsford Stakes. High Caste worked freely over a mile in 1.48. A Melbourne client recently took High Caste for the Derbies and also the Melbourne Cup. Malagigi did an impressive workout over seven furlongs in 1.32. Paddy The Rip ran six furlongs creditably in 1.19. Te Hero has been withdrawn from. Saturday’s meeting. Local horses working attractively are Cooranga, Reading and Buzaiong.
