Westland Organisation A meeting of the Westlanj Provincial Centennial Council was hold last evening, at the Greymouth Borough Council Chambers when there were present Messrs G. A. Peiiy (chairman), F. A. Kitchingham, J. Ryali, J. Mulcare, J. Murdoch, l Unwin, W. B. Gilbert, H. Herring, W. Clayton, P. J. McLean and D. J. Evans (secretary). Apologies for their absence were received from Messrs a. H. McKane, K. May (Ross), and Dr. W. McKay. The Centennial Branch, Wellington, wrote supplying particulars of uniforms, bunting etc, for celebrations. The Centennial Branch also wrote asking to be advised of the names o’ auditors of Centennial accounts in the several districts. The secataiy was requested to supply the necessary information.

I Reception Rooms. The secretary said this matter had been attended to. The Dominion Court Wellington supplied particulars of the size of the Tower of Knowledge for minerals and photographs. Mr E. R. Darracott, Kotuku, headmaster of the Kotuku School wrote regarding a visit to the school in or-der-to arrange about an exhibit. It was decided that the visit be made, Mr W. A. Service, Canerbury Education Board, write agreeing to act in conjunction with the scholarship committee. Mr W. A. Service, Canterbury, Eduaccepting the position of judge along with Dr. W. McKay, for the photographic competition. The secretary said there were 51 entries in the photographic competition, which would be judged almost immediately. Mr P. J. McLean, Greymouth, forwarded particulars of correspondence with Stewart and White, photographers. 1 The matter was referred to the | secretary and chairman for atten- : tion. The secretary submitted the following statement of finance as at August 31, 1939: —Receipts: June 30 Balance collected to date £1,823 ss; Au-j, gust 31, Centennial scholarship—Local Body payments £2lO, /‘Oltf Westland’’ £5 16s 3d; total £2039 Is 3d. The Scholarships ■ Fund stands at £555 7s 6d the . subsidy which has accrued totals £lB5 2s 6d. Further payments and subsidy anticipated are £125, providing a , grand total of £865 10s. ency for publications £195. The statement was approved. A grant of £25 was made to the South Island Travel Association. The Centennial Branch, Wellington forwarded particulars of timber production in Grey and Westland Counties since 1929 (total last year 74,114,292 sup. ft.).
