Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., accompanied by Mrs Chisholm, arrived yesterday from Wellington. Constable C. L. Scanlan has arrived from Wellington, to Join the Police. Force at Greymouth. A London cablegram stated that Sir Thomas Inskip becomes Viscount Caldecote. Passengers by Cook Strait Airways' West Coast service yesterday were:— Westport-Greymouth: Mr B. Shaw; Greymouth-Westport: Mrs J. G. Smart, Mrs Hopkinson, Mr B. Shaw. A London cablegram announced the death of Lord Hawke, at the age of 60. He was in business in India for a number of years, and was a director of the National Bank of India. An Official Wireless message stated that the King and Queen made their first public appearance since the outbreak of war, when they visited units of civil defence. Their Majesties drove from Buckingham Palace. The Governor-General (Lord Galway) paid a visit to the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) at his home in Northland.
