McCready v. jones. Paul Jones, the world’s finest ex- , ponent of the hook scissors, will be i seen in action in Greymouth to-mor-row night, when he will be opposed by Earl McCready, the British Emi pire champion, this match, by any token, being one of the most important that has ever been staged on the West Coast. These two men are among the likely contenders for the bouts arising out of the visit of Jim Londos and the finding of the New Zealand and Australasian champions for 1939. McCready as the prime I favourite among the importations I during the past four or five years, is in keen' demand from one end of the i country to the other, and consequently it is only on rare occasions that I there is an opportunity for him to come to Greymouth. Nevertheless. | followers of the sport in this district I know as well as any others that there are few, if any, better wrestlers in the world, and consequently his appearances are welcome. Like McCready, Jones has for some years held a prominent place among the world’s; wrestlers, and this has been due not I only to his all-round ability, but also I to the damaging use which he makes I of his specialty hold, the hook seis-j sors. ing their way under the ropes, no I wrestler has yet succeeded in breaking it, and it is always a most danIgerous attacking weapon. Jones, however, is by no means restricted to the | hook scissors. He has all the holds |in the game at his command, using them with consummate artistry. Over 6ft. in height and weighing about 17 stone, he has nothing to fear from McCready’s size, and his liking for rugged measures will be as troublesome to his opponent as it will be diverting to the spectators.
