FRENCH AVANCING Across German Lines [Aust.,-& N.Z. Cable Assn.] PARIS, September 4. It is learned that German-French hostilities began at 5 a.m.. with a terrific artillery duel. French troops have penetrated the German lines at a dozen points, advancing as much as three kilometres. NEW YORK, September 4. The Associated Press of America’s Raris correspondent says that a Gen>rtd iStaff communique announced: “Contact has been made on the front with the German forces.”
