[Our Own Correspondent]. , REEFTON, August 28. < The death took place at the resi- | dence of her son-in-law, Mr. W. F. White, Balguerie Street, Akaroa, on Saturday, of a well known former resident of Reefton, Mrs. Elizabeth Wood, widow of Mr. Peter Henry Wood, a well known mine manager in Reefton. The deceased lady, who had not been enjoying good health for some time past, is survived by two daughters and one son. Mrs. R. A. Stewart, of Greymouth, was in Reefton to-day on a short visit. At the Warden’s Court applications were granted as follows:—John Hargreaves for a special dredging claim license over 26 acres 3 roods 25 perches in Block VIII; John Hargreaves for an extension of time for hearing application No. 18/1939; Edwin Thomas Cox for an ordinary prospecting license over 100, acres in Blk. XIII Waitahu S.D.; David Absalom for an ordinary prospecting license over 100 acres in Blk. XIII, Waitahu S.D.; A. E. Mclnroe and A. O’Malley for four ordinary prospecting licenses over ■an aggregate of 400 acres in Blks. XV and XVI, Mawneraiti S.D.; S. R. Blair, G. S. Blair and G. Kellow for an ordinary prospecting license over 100 acres in Blks: VI and VII, Reefton S.D. and for leave to amend the description of the area; Big River Gold Mines Ltd. to surrender special quartz claim license.—accepted; Alexander Mines Limited foi' a residence site license over 15.6 perches in Blk. XV, Watahu S.D.; Snowy River Gold Dredging, Ltd. for a special dredging claim license ove? 600 acres in Blks.

XI and XII, Mawheraiti S.D. —Recommended subject to certain special conditions; issues raised by local body Engineer not adjudicated upon as no formal objection filed and no evidence tendered in support; T. C. Watts, C. A. Butcher and R. F. Woodbury for an ordinary prospecting license over 100 acres in Blk. XIV, Reefton S.D.— Withdrawn; Dominion Mineral Prospecting Co., N.L. for a special quartz claim license over 16 acres 2 roods 2 perches.—Lapsed—struck out. All other applications were adjourned. A public meeting was held at the , Council Chambers, Reefton, to consider the formation of a local committee, to arrange to send children in need of same to a Health Camp. Mr J. O’Regan, County Chairman, presided. Mr R. A. Dickie explained that, as a re"sult of the visits of the school medical officer to the Reefton district, it was found that some 30 children in the locality were in need of the care that could be given at a Health Camp. Some 18 of these children came from Reefton. . The ‘ cost would be approximately 18s 3d per week for each child, plus transport costs to and from the camps. The following committee was appointed to further the scheme: Mesdames Duff, and T. Patterson, Miss Morris, Messrs J. O’Regan, W. B. Auld, R. A. Dickie, A. F. Wells. Jas. Patterson, W. J. Humphries. J. McGregor, C. Lawn and J. Dellaca. Mr Auld was appointed secretary-treasur-er pr o tern. Ways and means of raising funds were discussed, and it was decided to ask the assistance of the various branches of the Women’s Institutes and all district sports bodies and societies. It was resolved that the Minister of Internal Affairs be asked that an allocation from the Art Union Funds be made to the Reeftori district to assist in sending children to health camps.
