The funeral of the late Mr. Thomas James Furlong, took place at Karoro Cemetery on Saturday. Requieum Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church by the Rev. Father J. Holohan, and Rev. Father A. C. Gregory officiated at the graveside.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wood, and Mrs. O. T. J'. Alpers, of Christchurch, who have been visiting Greymouth and Hokitika, left yesterday for Westport. Mrs. Wood is a member of the Dominion Council of the Royal N.Z. Society for the Health of Women and Children, and both she and Mrs. Alpers are members of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society. They are combining a holiday visit with Plunket work.

- On the occasion of the 21st. birthday of their daughter, Miss Doreen Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Barber, Lower Dobson, entertained a largq .number of friends at a social evening in the Dobson Hall on Saturday evening. An enjoyable time was spent in games and dancing. The popular young guest of the evening was the recipient of numerous valuable gifts. Mr. M. Bennett proposed the health of Miss Barber and presented her with the customary gold key. Miss Barber suitably responded. The death occurred on Friday evening at his residence, Rutherglen, of Mr. Robert Pascoe. Deceased, ’ who was born in Cornwall, England, 74 years ago, had resided at Rutherglen for the past 54 years, following the occupation of a gold miner. His wife predeceased him many years ago. He is survived by one. son, William (Blackball), also two brothers (in Cornwall), and one sister (United States). The funeral took place at Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Ven. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn conducted the service.

The death occurred on Saturday morning, of Mary Therese- O’Farrell, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Patrick O’Farrell, Puketahi Street. Deceased, who was born at Greymouth 14 years ago. had suffered a short illness. She was a pupil of St. Mary’s College, and was popular amongst a wide circle of schoolmates. Besides her parents, she leaves two brothers, Timothy hnd Patrick, and wide sympathy will be extended to the ramily. The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery this morning, following Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church at 9.30 o'clock.

The death occurred at Westport on Saturday evening of Mr. James Horace Greenwood, stationer and radio dealer, at the age of 66 years. Well known in the public life of Westport, he was Mayor for. a number of years, a former member of Westport Harbour Board, and formerly Chairman of Buller Hospital Board, and at the time of his death was Chairman of Westport Cascade Coal Company, a Director of Westport Buildjpg Society, also of West* port Theatq.es, Ltd., and President of the Westport Aero Club.—Press Assn,
