N.Z. Trotting Assn.

MEETING OF BOARD. CHRISTCHURCH, June 21. The board of the New Zealand Trotting Association met yesterday. Mr. H. W. Kitchingham ("Greymouth), in the absence of the president, Mr. J. H. Williams, was in the chair. There' were also present Messrs B. McCarthy (Hawera), S. W. Kelly (Wei- 1 lington), R. T. Reid (Auckland), J. B. Thomson (Invercargill), J. M. Samson (Dunedin), and the Hon. W. Hayward, M.L.C. (Christchurch). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. H. Williams, T. J. Buxton, and J. R. McKenzie. The South Australian Trotting League advised the following disqualifications: D. T. Bates (lessee), S. W. Bates (trainer-driver), and the horse Ihcar Moon, for 12 months for not trying to win at Wayville on March 25. The Australian Trotting Club advised the disqualification of C. B. R. Lawlor (owner-trainer), A. Picken (driver), and the horse, Dandy Vin, for 12 months. This disqualification was later reduced to six months. The disqualifications were endorsed. The Auckland Trotting Club reported that for interference it had reduced the licence held by F. V. Cutts to D grade. The Forbury Park Trotting Club reported that it had reduced the licence held by W. K. Tatterson to D Grade for three months for interference. The action of the club was endorsed.

The New Zealand Metropolitan Club reported having held an inquiry into an accident in the Craven Handicap at the club’s Easter meeting. Evidence had been given by several drivers, but the club had decided to take no action. The Forbury Park Trotting Club had held an inquiry into the running of Privateer in the Beach Handicap at the Forbury Park meeting. A protest had been entered by the stipendiary steward, Mr. F. J'. Beer, against, the stake being awarded to Privateer on the grounds of inconsistency compared with his running at Oamaru a few days previously. The protest had been dismissed and the action of the club was endorsed. The Oamaru Trotting Club, on the advice of the stipendiary steward, Mr. F. J. Beer, had held an inquiry into alleged interference by Ferry Post (C. S. Donald) with Toorak (E. C. McDermott). The club had not found it necessary to take any action, as any interference had not been deliberate, but it was decided to issue a caution to C. S. Donald. The club’s action was endorsed. The start of the Wakefield Trot at the Nelson Jockey Club’s meeting was the subject of an inquiry by the club. There seemed to be some confusion among drivers as to whether the starter had given the word to go. It was stated that the starter had, contrary to the usual practice, taken up a position on the outside of the course. No action was taken.

It was decided to endorse the action of the club, but to ask the stipendiary steward for a report on the starting of this race. The stipendiary steward had raised an objection to the Manaia Handicap at the Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting against the stake being awarded to Frontier Boy, who had finished first. Frontier Boy, it was alleged, had broken an over-check and had galloped during the race. The club had disqualified Frontier Boy for the race. The action of the club was endorsed. At the last meeting of the board it was decided to ask the owner of Royal Flush to show cause why the horse should not be placed on the schooling list. The owner had explained that though his horse’s behaviour “had not been all that could have been desired” at Timaru, he had been interfered .with by another horse. It was decided to place Royal Flush on the schooling list

The stipendiary steward, Mr F. <JCommons, had reported that Red Frontier raced badly on right-handed courses, and it was decided that in future the Te allowed to compete only on left-handed tracks. The next meeting of the board will be held on August 8, at 7.30 p.m. Chameleon Case: At the meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association on Tuesday, it was decided to inform B. Thompson, owner of the horse Chameleon, who had been disqualified after winning the Provincial Handicap at the Westland Racing Club’s meeting, that the board, after reviewing the evidence had decided that no further action be taken.
