BLACKMAIL AND FINES ANTICIPATED. - - LONDON, December 4.. ’ *The ■ ''Sun-Pictorial” declares that the Nazis are attempting , to blackmail the Pope; into withdrawing antiHitler propaganda, by threatening the Austrian ex-Chancellor, Dr. Kurt Von Schuschnigg, who is gravely ill in his one-roomed prison at the top of a Vienna hotel. It is beleved the Pope was preparing an encyclical, before his recent illness, denouncing religious and racial persecution. [lndependent Cable]. LONDON, December 4.
“Reynolds’ News” declares: Germany, having defined ghettos for Jews, is at present preparing an attack on Catholics, casting covetous eyes on their wealth. She plans a “fine" to redeem their churches and church property. “Reynolds’ News” quotes Herr RosenbUrg’s recent speech that “the Catholic Church, and also the Protestant Confessional Church, in the present form must disappear from the life of our people.”' '
