Presidential Trophy GREY DEFEAT UNITED. Weather conditions were fair yesterday for the playing of the first presidential trophy match of the season at the Greymouth Tennis Club’s courts, in which Greymouth defeated United by 5 rubbers to 1. Light showers caused some slight delay, but did not interfere with the games to any great extent. Although Greymouth’s margin was a handsome one, the majority of the games were evenly contested,, producing high-class tennis. The doubles match in which E. Halstead and E. Pattinson defeated A. Warnes and A. L. McKay was a brilliant game, and always in doubt. Greymouth won all the singles, .the only United players who succeeded in their game being V. Thomas and T. McDonnell, who won their doubles from C. Plimmer and J. Garth. Results, with Greymouth players first mentioned, were:— Singles: E. Halstead defeated P. Warnes, 4/6, 6/4, 6/3. E. Pattinson defeated A.
