[Our Own Correspondent] .. Mr M. G. McNabb, late of Queenstown, has taken up duties here as Postmaster. Mr Dannie McVicar is off work suffering from a back injury received in the Roa mine. Mr Paul Ronchi, of Ikamatua, has taken over the butchery business in this township, carried on so successfully for some years, past by the Kidd Brothers. Miss A. McGhie, Scottish • Exchange School Teacher, stationed lately in Kaiata school, left on Thursday to teach in one of the Dunedin schools. This completes her exchange engagement in this country. Mr R. Mountford is confined to his home, suffering-from an eye injury. Miss Pascoe, of Masterton, who has been visiting hex - parents, Mr and Mrs Pascoe, Stafford Street, has returned north, her sister, Miss N. Pascoe, accompanying her. •Mr R. M. Clark has entered the Grey Hospital for treatment to me throat.

Mr and Mrs J. Kerr of Oaro Public Works Camp, in the Marlborough district are visiting Blackball at present, owing to illness in the family. They are the guests of Mr and Mrs Mountford, Main Road. '. Mr and Mrs S. , Peggie and family left last Saturday morning for Hokitika, where Mr Peggie has been appointed to the Post Office staff. On Friday evening of last week a farewell social was given by the townspeople in honour of Mr and Mrs Peggie, at the Oddfellows’ Hall. The large number present was a fitting tribute to the esteem, in which the Peggie family were held here. Miss King, one of the finalists in the Deanna Durbin contest recently held in Wellington, rendered two fine songs during the evening. After the supper interval, Mr R. Clark, on behalf of the citizens, presented Mr Peggie with a traveller’s shaving kit, and Mrs Peggie with an

electric kettle and also a suiiaoie present for their baby girl. He expressed the peoples’ regret at losing such an- obliging and painstaking public servant and ' wished Mr Peggie and family every Luck in their new environment, and extended to them the hearty good wishes of their wide circle of ffierids! Miss Gwen Davies,, on behalf of the local basketball team, then presented Mrs-Peggie with a water set, subscribed for by the team, and wished her every happiness in her new home. Mr Peggie, on rising to reply, was received with musical honours. He expressed the regret of himself and his wife at leaving Blackball, a place where they had madfe a lot of friends. Being West Coasters theriiselves, it was an easy matter to “fit in.” He thanked them most' heartily for their useful presents, which would always remind them both of their happy residence in Blackball. Dancing was continued till the wee sma’ hours, when the company dispersed after singing “Auld Larig Syne.” Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, will be the guest of the townsfolk on Tuesday evening next, at a banquet. The .Minister will arrive in Blackball, probably for lunch, after which he will receive deputations and at 7 p.m. will address a public meeting in the Miners’ Hall. All are heartily invited to ' attend and hear the Minister." Following the public meet!rig, the banquet will b'e held, and after the banquet, there will be a dance.
