REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent! REEFTON, November 30. A burglary took place in Reefton last night or early this morning, Mr W. J. Duff’s shop being entered, and ( watches estimated by the proprietor ,to be worth £35 being taken. Entry was effected by the front door, a ■ miner’s pick evidently having been 1 used to open the dobr, a flick being found lying in the water-table in front' lof the shop this morning. That the attempt to open the door was a des- ' perate one is evidenced by the pick marks on the door, five distinct marks I being plainly visible, and evidently ' much force had to be used to force the screws in the catch sufficiently p for the door to be opened. The burg-' lar y was not noticed until later in I the morning when Mr Duff went to ; ' the window to show some watches to I a prospective purchaser. He then found that he ‘had only three left, I these being behind some other goods* land evidently not seen’by the thief.l 1 Reefton has had an absence of thefts for a long time past but this latest] one should serve to put citizens bn the alert to protect their property.
