[Our Own Correspondent] Dr N. Pippin, Medical Officer for the Education Department, inspected the pupils of the local school last week. . Mr Joe Smith who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch has reOlder residents of the Inangahua mining fields, heard with regret of the death of Mr Pat Gannon, who some twenty years ago was a well known figure on the mining field. His death took place in Western Australia some three weeks ago. Messrs S. P. Williams (President), R. Taylor (Vice-President)-and J. McGregor (Secretary) Inangahua Miners’ Union, leave for Wellington on Monday morning, to attend a conference on Tuesday with delegates from the Waihi Miners’ Union. The conference is endeavouring to bring about a national agreement for quartz miners, with increased wages, ahd improved working conditions. Mr J. J. Anisy (Greymouth)■ was a visitor to the township on Tuesday. Mr Jack Green, son of Mr and Mrs J. Green, Dominion Hotel, Ikamatua, who annexed the senior championship at Wellington College last year, tied for the honours this year with P. G. Morris. In addition Green won the following cups:—Luke Cup, 44(J yards championship, time 55secs; Finch Cup 120 yards hurdles, time 16secs; Oscar Kember Cup, 220 yards championship,

At a meeting held in the Institute room's last week, ■it was decided to form a women’s branch of the New Zealand Labour Party Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mrs G. Ward; vice-president, Mrs R. Taylor; I treasurer, Mrs W. Griffiths; secretary, Mrs Jim Smith. A strong committee was formed. The branch intend holding a supper dance after the pictures to-morrow evening. Good music, floor and appointments. The proceeds go towards providing r Christmas party for local children.
