SHEEP STEALING CHARGES

ASHBURTON, May 27

A father and son appeared before Mi - . H, Morgan, S.M.. charged with sheep stealing. William Gordon Benv en, the son, was charged with stealing three sheep at Wakanui. Evidence was given by three men, recently convicted of cheep stealing, that the accused accompanied them on one occasion.

Counsel said his client was not connected with the gang, being awav from Ashburton when the series of thefts was committed.

Accused elected to be dealt with summarily. He was admitted to two years' probation similar to the sentence imposed by the Supreme Court on his companions. The father, Samuel Joseph Beaven, was accused of the theft of two sheep the property of a person unknown, in the middle of 1936. Evidence was given by two of the men concerned in the recent charges. The ease was adjourned till June 10th.
