Mr A. C. Thurlow left last evening on a holiday visit to Central Otago. Mr H. Boardman of Christchurch, who has been visiting Greymcuth, leaves to-day on return.

Mr L. Corner, representing Drages Co. Ltd., has arrived in Greymoutb, and is staying at the Albion Hotel.

Mrs I. Reedy arrived from Westport yesterday to attend the wedding of Mr James Oakley and Miss Mary Pollock, which takes place at St. Patrick’s Church this morning.

Dr. Margaret Sneddon has arrived at Brunnerton to act as locum tenens for Dr. E. L. Fitzgerald, who will be leaving for Auckland at an early date.

Miss Zillah Bustard, of Wanganui, is on a visit to Greymouth to attend the wedding of her cusin. Miss Ella Robertson, to Mr Malcolm Scandrett, which takes place at Holy Trinity Church to-day.

Mrs A. Burrowes and Miss Shirley Burrowes arrived yesterday by car to attend the wedding to-day of Mr M. Scandrett and Miss E. Robertson. Mr and Mrs James Dietrick of Christchurch also arrived yesterday by car to be present at the wedding.

Mr A. McKenzie, of the locomotive staff, Railways Department Greymouth, leaves this morning on transfer to the Railway Workshops, Addington. He was met by the pupils and staff of the Grey Main School and presented with a set of cutlery, whilst the Grey Main School Boys’ Boxing Club made him the presentation of a fireside chair, suitably engraved.

The death at Auckland early yesterday morning, after a brief illness, of Mrs. Jane McDonald. wife of Stephen McDonald, aged 62 years, removes a former well-known West Coaster. Deceased, a native of Reefton, was a daughter of the late Mr. W. Campbell, of Mitchell and Campbell coach proprietors, and had resided on the West Coast until 18 years ago, when she removed to Auckland. She is survived by her husband and three sons; also three brothers, Andrew (Reef ton), William (Upper Hutt), and Joseph (Australia); and two sisters, Misses E. and B. Campbell (Greymouth).

Mr and Mrs J. D. Lambert of Stockton arrived yesterday to attend the wedding of their son David, to Miss Nola Best, of Kongahu, which takes place at Holy Trinity Church this evening. Other visitors to arrive yesterday for the occasion are Mr and Mrs K. O. Jones, and Mr G. Ryan (Kongohu), Mr and Mrs T. Williams (Westport), Messrs G. and B. Lambert and W. Payne (Stockton).

An announcement has been made by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Hon. W. E. Parry in respect to the eligibility of ratepayers in arrears nt rates for election and voting in boroughs and counties. The Minister replied that ratepayers in boroughs in arrears with rates were eligible for election and to vote. County ratepayers in arrears with rates were not eligible to stand for election, or to vote.

The monthly meeting of the Ikamatua Women’s Institute was held in the Ikamatua hall, Mrs. Cullen pre siding over a good attendance of members, and one visitor being welcomed. The meeting opened with the reading of the aspirations. Remits for the Dominion Conference were discussed. The opportunity was laken by the President to present Miss Mavis Bradley with a chromium bedroom clock in view of her approaching marriage. Miss Bradley thanked the members for the gift. The monthly competition resulted: Mrs. H. Palmer 1, Mrs. J. Black 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Jones and Flynn The hostesses’ competition was won by Mrs. J. Wylde 1, and Miss M Bradley was second.

The monthly meeting of the Ru- . nanga Branch of the Mothers’ Union, despite adverse conditions, was well attended. Rev. Mr. Osborne-Brown conducted a liteny service. A proposal for a birthday party was well discussed. It was resolved to pre* pare a report and balance sheet tor audit and to be forwarded to Nelson to the diocesan headquarters of the Union. Mrs. E. Kennedy was wel oomed after her recovery from illness, and also Mrs. Sweeney, a visitor from Ashburton, The Sick Visitors reported on their duties at the hos-: pital, Mesdames Radcliffe, Sped ding and Glover served an excellenl afternoon tea.
