[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 14. Some of them fresh from duty with British naval patrols in the Mediterranean, a draft of 12 Royal Navy ratings arrived at Auckland by Rangitiki from London on Saturday for service in the ships on the New Zealand station. Seven of them are to join the Imperial escort vessel Leith. Three are to go to the warship Wellington, one is a New Zealander, to rejoin the Philomel, and the other is to serve on the Admit aity survey ship Endeavour. DUNEDIN, February 14. William Henry Charles McKay, who escaped from gaol here while being held pending removal to Invercargill to answer a charge of breaking and entering, had less than ten hours liberty. As a result of information about the escaped man’s whereabouts, the police made a search over the 'l'aieri Plain, and the prisoner was recaptured at 4.30 p.m. to-day after having broken into a house, apparently to obtain food. He is an habitual criminal, aged 31. OAMARU, February 14. Joseph Patterson, labourer, married, with four’children, died to-day, as the result of injuries received in a collision with a car, while cycling on February 4. A collision yesterday afternoon, between a motor-cyclist and a car, resulted in head injuries to the motorcyclist, Athol Robertson, junior. His condition is not serious.
