REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, February 11. The Reefton Branch of the Labour Party are holding a series of community singing gatherings, commencing on Sunday evening at 8.15 o’clock n connection with the Queen Carnival. These entertainments were popular -when previously run by the Branch. Mrs J. McMahon, who had an arm fractured in a motor collision on Wednesday, was taken to Christchurch via Lewis Pass this morning for specialist treatment. Mr and Mrs E. Jones, of the North Island, were visitors to Reef ton last evening, and left this morning. Mr Jones is an old resident of Reefton, having left this place some forty-five years ago. Mr Stevens, of Waimate, is on a visit to his son, Mr L. W. Stevens, previous to tho latter’s departure for Singapore on Tuesday next.

Mr and Mrs E. Parris, who were married recently in Christchurch, are visiting Reefton. Mr Parris was on the Bank of New Zealand staff at Reefton, until a few months ago, and is now stationed at Alexandra.

The death took pla n e at Reefto" Hospital to-day of Fay, youngest daughter of Mr and '4rs William Blackadder, of Springs Junction, Maruia. The child was aged seven and a half years, and had been in hospital for some three or four weeks. She was a very engaging girl and a general favourite, and her death will cause great grief to all who knew her. The bereaved parents and family will receive the sincere sympathy of a very wide circle of friends in their bereavement. The interment will be private.
