[Our Own Correspondent]. Mr Nolan, of the City Hotel, Ross, went under a serious operation, and residents are glad to hear that he is making a good recovery. A lorry was burnt on the road between Ross and Hokitika during the week. There was a good attendance at the swimming sports, gate takings amounting to £6 2s. Competition was keen, and the officials conducted the events well to time. Results were:—Men’s diving: H. Donaldson 1, R: Thompson 2. Seven competed. 50 yds breaststroke (men): Affleck 1, R. Thompson 2. Five competed. A close finish. 100yds men: R. Thompson 1, Affleck 2. Five competed. Girls’ Plunge: Elsie Thompson 1. Six competed; Boys’ plunge: J. Thompson 1. Only two competed. School girls’ and boys’ relay race: E. Thompson,. E. Pething, G. Blacklow, R. Fairhall 1. This was an exciting race. Men’s 50 yds handicap—First heat: Affleck 1, H. Donaldson 2. Four competed. Won easily. Second heat: W. De Backker I, R. Thompson 2. Five competed A good race, four being in line at the finish. Final: H.’ Donaldson 1, W. De Backker 2. A good race between the two placed men. Men’s 25yds handicap—First heat: J. Thompson~l R. Donaldson 2. Four competed. Second heat: Pethig 1, H. Donaldson 2. Four competed. Final: M. Pethig 1, R. Thompson 2. Four competed. Boys’ and girls’ relay race: Boys 1, girls 2. A very good race, the boys winning by about one yard. f Girls, 16 and under: Elsie Thompson 1, G. Upjohn 2. Three competed..
