VICTORIA PARK SPORTS. There was a good attendance at the cycling meeting conducted by the Greymouth Cycling Club at Victoria Park. F. Shrives was the most successful junior, with a win and a third, in big fields, while in the senior division D. Clarke was the most consistent place-getter. D. Morland showed outstanding sprinting ability in taking the major placing throughout the teams’ race. The results were:— Junior half-mile: N. Hopkins (80yds) 1; K. Fisher (15) 2; F, Shrives (60) 3. Twelve started. Time 1.7 2-5. Senior mile: D. Clarke (120) 1; P. Keating (120) 2; D. Morland (scr) 3 Also started: P. Duffy (scr), J. Archer, M. Malone (70), A. Bennett (120), R. Mclntyre, R. Seebeck (140). Won by three-quarters of a length; five lengths. Junior mile: F. Shrives (120) 1; D. Grenfell (120) 2; R. Bell (200) 3. Ten started. Won by half a wheel; four lengths. Time 2min 26 3-ssec. Half-mile match race: A. Quartermain defeated H. Becker. Time 1.13. Quartermain made the pace from the start, and held off a strong challenge by Becker in the straight to win by half a length. Three-mile senior: A. Bennett (280) I; D. Clarke (280) 2j R. Mclntyre (320) 3. Also started': P. Duffy, D. Morland (scr), M. Malone, J. Archer (180). Won by three lengths; threequarters of a length. Time 7min 25 secs.
Teams’ race (two miles): Morland, Malone, and Bennett drew with Duffy, Clarke, and Archer. Morland won each of the four sprints, but Duffy and Clarke shared the minor placings. Time smin 4isecs.
