FINDING THE MONEY.

[To the Editor], Sir,—ln reply to your correspondent “Confused,” in yesterday’s issue: Answer (1): Yes, slumps and booms are man-made;—So is money. (2) Where Germany got the money to carry on the world war with—the printing press; or where Mussolini got the money to convert the waste lands of Italy into arable land—not where the Tory Government got it from to create the land boom, Sirotto and Co; but from any entry on the debit side of the Reserve Bank ledger against "the people of New Zealand. If you are a farmer, just as a storekeeper would debit you with a bag of sugar he supplied you with and credit you with a sack of potatoes he received from you, we, the people of New Zealand back the money for that public work, and when the job is finished, credit the country’s account with that improvement. If “Confused” and his friends would sub in a few pence and get two books by F. H. Drinkwater, one of England’s best authorities, one on “Credit and Currency,” and the other “Why Not End Poverty?”,—they would find them very interesting, enlightening, and understood by everyone. There are many more very good but these two are inexpensive and can be greatly appreciated by anyone who loves his own country as we should New Zealand.—I am etc, UNDERSTOOD.
