'■ NICOSIA, February 8. When a tyre burst, in taking off from Adana, Clouston realised that a crash was almost inevitable, wherever he landed. The aerodrome surface at Nicosia was bad. The under-carriage was smashed, and the s propellor was bent. Clouston likened the Adana aerodrome to a swamp. “All across Europe,” he said, “we .flew blind through fog and snowstorms. We did not see a single thing until we slithered into the mud at Adana. We had six gallons of petrol left.” NEW SPEED RECORD. ORAN, February 8. The French air ace, Maurice Rossi, beat the world, speed record on a circuit of 1250 miles, with a load of two tons. The record was previously held by Italy. Rossi averaged 271 miles per hour, compared with the Italian speed of 266 miles per hour. NEW FLYING BOATS. (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, February 8. It is announced that eight additional flying-boats, ordered by Imperial Airways At the end of last year, for the trans-Atlantic and Empire services, will be strengthened, so that the loaded weight will be 8,000 pounds higher than that of the two boats which made last year’s flights acrpss Ihe Atlantic. Part of the extra weight will be due to the heavier structure, but there will still be a margin of some 5,000 nounds, for a pay-load.
