J. C. WILLIAMSON LTD.
MAJORITY OF SHARES Pass to N.Z. Investment Trust [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received December 14, 11.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 14. Considerable interest has been aroused in theatrical circles by the announcement that the New Zealand Investment Trust has acquired a majority holding in J. C. Williamson shares. Last Saturday’s message recorded this purchase. Mr Mallis, a director of the company, interviewed, said that he had nothing but the warmest admiration for the way that his co-directors, the Taits, had conducted the business of the company. Mr E. J. Tait, interviewed, said that he and his co-directors were not concerned about the sale of shares by individual directors. “It has always been the policy of Taits that the operations of the company should be considerably extended,” he said; “but in this regard, our views have not been supported by the particular interests which are reported as having sold their shares.” Mr Tait added that he would welcome new blood if it meant support for a progressive policy.”
