COROWA BY-ELECTION

LABOUR SUPPORTED INDEPENDENT WINS. SYDNEY, December 13. The substantial vote received by C. B. Lethbridge, Independent, in the Corowa by-election, surprised the Country Party. With several hundred votes to be counted, Lethbridge has an absolute majority of 113 over the three other candidates, two Country Party candidates and another Independent, aind he is expected to win the seat with an absolute majority of primary votes. The result is a serious rebuff to the Country Party, which was very confident of retaining the seat held so long by the late Mr. R. T. Ball. The Labour Party, which in the past unsuccessfully sought to win the seat, supported Lethbridge on this occasion.
