SERIOUS ILLNESS BUT PLANS NEW RECORD. (Received December 13, 8 p.m.) LONDON, December 13. The “Daily Herald” says Miss Jean Batten is run down after the strain of her flight. She is seriously ill, and is suffering from a severe chill. Her doctor has ordered her a complete rest. OUT TO BEAT SCOTT AND BLACK LONDON, December 13. Miss Jean Batten is planning a solo attempt to beat the Scott-Black record to Melbourne. She is using a rooot pilot to relieve a considerable portion of the strain. LONDON AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS LONDON, December 13. The “Daily Mail” says: 'rhe Government’s plans for the evacuation of London in the event of air raids, include one for Their Majesties and other Royalties going to Windsor, where the Office of Works has completed gasproof and bombproof shelters in the chambers of secret passages beneath Windsor Castle, which also would house the treasures that are kept in the state rooms.
