THE WEATHER
I Per Press Association]. WELLINGTON, August 24. The weather report and forecast are as follows:— General situation: An anti-cyclone has remained centred near Chatham Island, while a depression covers the greater part of Tasman Sea, one centre of which is now located west of Cape Maria Van Diemen. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong north-easterly to easterly, reaching gale force in some exposed positions, more especially in the northern half of the North Island; veering to southeasterly at places about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough to high north of East Cape, and a considerable easterly swell south of East Cape; moderate in the coastal.waters on the West Coast, but rather rough to rough off shore. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong north-east to eastern winds; of gale force in the northern portion: veering to south-easterlies in the southern portion; seas rough. Weather: Still cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in many places, and rain in most districts. Some heavy falls are probable, especially in the northern and north-eastern portion of the North Island, with some flooding in those areas. Temperatures: Mild, but becoming rather cooler to-morrow in the South.
