MEXICAN MARRIAGE

HOLLYWOOD COUPLES Brent-Howarth Case [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] LOS ANGELES, August 19. An air mystery has been added to a divorce case between the Australian actress, Joselyn 1 Howarth, and the actor, George Brent. This was due to remarks credited to Brent, tn the course of which he alluded to pressure which, he alleged, had been present before his wedding trip. Brent, questioned on the subject of the marriage trip, replied: “I Anally agreed because of the pressure. Jocelyn Howarth’s attorney, Mr. Schwartz, asked the Court to strike out the word “pressure,” but the Judge refused. Another message, from Los Angeles, says that Brent, replying to an out-of-Court statement by Jocelyn Howarth, “He is no gentleman,” said that he hoped to confine the trial to technicalities. He said: “If Jocelyn Howarth wants mudslinging, we will give her all the dirt she wants.” When the hearing was resumed, Mexican experts, 6n behalf of Miss Howarth, testified that the marriage could not in Mexico be annulled if the couple, after the ceremony, lived as man and wife. The proceedings were adjourned.
