YOUNG WOMAN ATTACKED

IN COWPER STREET HOUSE By Unknown Intruder Entering the dwelling Mr. Stanley L. Rogers, Superintendent of the Provident Life Assurance Society early last evening, an intruder attacked Mr. Rogers’ daughter, Miss Dulcie Rogers, aged about 22 years. Miss Rogers was beaten, and suffered severely from shock and bruises. Her father, who was away from home at the time, made the discovery on his return shortly after 10 o’clock. Other than that the motive of the intruder apparently was robbery, no theory could be advanced for the occurrence last evening and few details were available. As far as could be ascertained, nothing was stolen from the house but it is thought that the invader did not know that there was anyone on the premises at the time of his entry.

Mr. Rogers’ home is situated on the west side of Cowper Street, opposite the junction of Buccleugh Street, and it is obscured from the view of passers-by in Cowper Street. It would therefore, be quite possible for any intruder to make a hurried departure without chance of being noticed by anyone in the locality. . Miss Rogers, who is employed as a waitress at Mr. J. Owen’s Tea Rooms, Mackay Street, is a popular young lady of quiet and unassuming disposition' and therefore the possibility of malicious intent on the part, of the intruder is not suggested b\ the facts of the matter. Such an occurrence is extremely rare in this locality, and its explanation will depend upon further details being ascertained.
