The Senate has confirmed Mr Black’s appointment to the Supreme Court by 63 votes to 16. The vote followed an hour’s bitter debate, m which Mr Black was attacked for his alleged affiliation with the Ku Klux Klan and for the anti-Al Smith campaign in the 1928 elections.
