TO AUSTRALIA Prime Minister’s Statement [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] BRISBANE, August 18. (Received August 18, 11 p.m.) The Prime Minister, Mr J. A. Lyons, who is visiting Queensland, commented on complaint of passengers on a liner, Otranto, against an influx of aliens, as cabled yesterday. Mr Lyons said that he was quite prepared to have an inquiry into the physique and the mentality of the migrants who are coming by the Otranto. The Prime Minister added that there is nothing abnormal about the number of foreign migrants entering the Commonwealth. He understood that about 80 per cent, of the newcomers were dependent relatives ol oersons who are already resident in the Commonwealth. CANBERRA, August 18. It is officially stated here that the excess of permanent arrivals over departures, principally southern Europeans, in the years from 1934 to 1936. numbered 3583.
